ENGLISH FOR MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS
The programme for nurses, doctors, and other medical professionals.
This programme is designed for overseas medical professionals seeking registration in New Zealand, including nurses, doctors and dentists. During this course students develop their communicative language skills at the same time as fine-tuning exam methodology for the OET exam. The programme offers the following modules:

| OET Preparation | ||||
| Structure | ||||
| OET Preparation is a 12 or 24 week module (depending on language level) and includes 12.5 hours of tuition per week. Students can combine this module with English for Nursing to make a full-time programme. | ||||
| Content | ||||
| OET Preparation combines intensive English instruction with content and situational lessons from healthcare fields with specific practice of OET tasks in all skill areas. Emphasis is on combining fluency with a high degree of accuracy in both spoken and written communication. Students have the opportunity to sit mock OET examinations on a regular basis | ||||

| Direct entry into the 24-week OET Preparation module requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. (This may be demonstrated by sitting The Campbell Institute’s internal test). Direct entry into the 12-week OET Preparation module requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. | ||||
| English for Nursing | ||||
| Structure | ||||
| This module is delivered alongside the OET Preparation module, and runs for 12 or 24 weeks, with 7.5 hours of tuition per week. | ||||
| Content | ||||
| The module provides nurses with the language skills to successfully work in an English-speaking environment. All communicative skills are covered, with a particular focus on situational language in a medical context, as well as ensuring that students can function confidently and proficiently in the wider community. The content of this module will support the OET Preparation module. | ||||

| Direct entry into the 24-week English for Nursing module requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. Direct entry into the 12-week module requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. |
| IELTS Preparation | ||||
| This module is optional for students who wish to sit the IELTS exam before beginning the OET Preparation module. Note that students who achieve an IELTS 5.0 may apply for variation of conditions to their student visa to allow part-time work during the rest of their study. Alternatively, students may wish to prepare for the IELTS exam at a later stage, as an alternative to OET for the purpose of gaining NZ registration. | ||||
| Structure | ||||
| The IELTS Preparation module is 6 weeks (can be extended if necessary), and runs for 15 hours per week. This module can be combined with 8 hours per week of General English, Academic English, or Business English to create a full-time programme. | ||||

| Entry | ||||
| This module is suitable for students with an IELTS level of 5.0 or equivalent. No IELTS score is required for entry. However, students must sit The Campbell Institute’s placement test and demonstrate equivalent to IELTS 5.0 before starting this module. | ||||
| General English | ||||
| General English is designed to take students up to the level required for entry into the OET Preparation and English for Nursing modules. | ||||
| Structure | ||||
| The duration of the course is flexible, and will depend on the student’s level of English upon commencement, and rate of progress. Generally, students will require up to 24 weeks of study to progress from IELTS level 5.0 to 6.0. General English can be studied full-time (24 hours per week), or part-time alongside IELTS Preparation. | ||||

| Entry | ||||
| This module is suitable for students of any level. However, it is highly recommended that students wishing to achieve IELTS 6.0 equivalency for entry into the OET Preparation module enter General English with an English level of at least IELTS 5.0 equivalency. | ||||
